Service Opportunities
TOPIC: Function, membership and terms of permanent committees of Zion UCC.
POLICY: In order to document appointment procedures for the various permanent committees of Zion UCC, the following policy for each of the committees listed is established. Each committee shall have council representative with the exception of the Auditing Committee. The council representative shall serve (with voice but not vote) no more than two consecutive three (3) year term as a representative to any one committee during his/her term of office. Each committee chairman submits a written report to the annual congregational meeting.

Change altar cloths, communion preparation and have a flower sub-committee. Members appointed by the Church to serve until a member chooses to resign or until the Council replaces that member.

Plan and initiate the Christian Education program, survey and evaluate education needs, choose curriculum materials, recruit, train and support teachers and aides, and organize Vacation Bible School. Six members may each serve two consecutive three-year terms. Each year two members are elected by the congregation. Ex-officio members include the Pastor(s) and Director of Christian Education.

Develop and promote fellowship within the congregation, and responsibilities for coffee hours. Six members, two to be appointed each year by the Council, and may serve two consecutive three-year terms.

To maintain the history of the congregation. Four (4) members, appointed by the Council, serve until a member chooses to resign or until the Council replaces that member.

Provide information to Council on investing and re-investing endowment church funds. Three members are appointed by the Council who may serve two consecutive three-year terms. They meet when required or requested.

Secure the organists and choir directors and provide special musitc during he year including the summer months. Membership is made up of six council appointed members. Ex-officio members are choir director(s) and organists. Members may serve until they choose to resign or be replaced be Council.

Review committee for the staff. Meets when required, at least once a year, or when requested. This is a standing committee of the President of the Council, Council Representative, and Chairpersons of the Deacons, Elders and Trustees.

Gives grants to our senior high school students. Interview scholarship candidates from the UCC seminaries and make loans with funds available and collect loans outstanding. Four members, appointed by the Council, serve until a member chooses to resign or until the Council replaces that member.

Encourage and promote stewardship of time and talents and resources throughout the year. Six members appointed by the Council (two each year) and may serve two consecutive three-year terms.
